Public education is provided by Llano Independent School District (LISD) which has a total enrollment of about 1,900 students. One elementary campus, Packsaddle Elementary, is located within Kingsland, but the intermediate and high school campuses are in nearby Llano. Texas Education Agency has designated LISD a Recognized District with exemplary status.
Lake LBJ is a reservoir that was created by construction of the Granite Shoals Dam in 1950. Spanning a surface area of about 6,500 acres, Lake LBJ has since become a popular venue for fishing and water sports. Boaters, water skiers and jet skiers appreciate the lake’s clear waters and stable water level. For anglers, the lake is stocked with largemouth bass, white bass, crappie and catfish. The land surrounding Lake LBJ is dotted with small residential communities that appeal to retirees and vacation home buyers. The communities of Kingsland, Horseshoe Bay, Highland Haven, Granite Shoals, Sunrise Beach, Deer Haven and Blue Lake have a large and varied selection of scenic, waterfront residential properties.
Horseshoe Bay is probably the ritziest of the group. Located about 20 miles south of Kingsland by car, Horseshoe Bay is a resort area, complete with upscale hotels, restaurants, shops and golf courses. It’s a nice local diversion for those who live in the more laid-back communities of Highland Haven, Granite Shoals, Sunrise Beach, Deer Haven and Blue Lake.
